i’ve known mike saal for as long as i can remember. we grew up together in the cape flats – a strange place with even stranger people. as kids we were always on the roof of his house pretending it was an uncomfortable ship sailing through an ocean of houses. aboard the ship it was mandatory to throw red berries as far as we could in all directions. we always wondered if we would survive the journey, the jump, the maths test, the hiding and the walk through the neighbourhood after dark. school was boring as hell. we spent those years daydreaming and collecting little animal skeletons. shortly after school mike started freelancing as a picture maker and i became a fortune cookie writer but my radical ideas soon cost me the job. these days we spend most of our time trying to move our cup of tea with our stare and when we need a break from that i’ll write stories and mike will draw the pictures. if you see us in a public place be sure to shout something obscene, that’ll be nice. ok take care.
